L06 Office furniture
Office furniture is the bulk of most office moves and the part that decides how the new office looks on the first morning. Moveall for Business, the commercial service of Moveall Australia Pty Ltd, moves office furniture across Adelaide as part of office and business relocations, and delivers and places new furniture for fit-outs. This page covers the furniture side in detail: what moves, how it is protected, how it is placed, and what to tell us for the quote.

For the whole office move, from the brief to the set-up check, see office removalists in Adelaide.

| Pedestals and drawer units | How many, and that they will be emptied before the move |
| Filing cabinets and cupboards | Sizes, and that they will be emptied |
| Meeting and boardroom tables | Table sizes and whether the top separates from the base |
| Reception counters | Size and how it is fixed, if at all |

Moveall’s fixed-price quotes rely on the inventory list, and extra items found on the day can cost extra, so list everything that moves and mark what stays.
Workstations and desks
Workstations are the item that most often slows an office move, because they come in many forms: single desks, benches of four or six, desks joined with screens and cable trays, sit-stand desks with motors. Tell us what you have, how it is joined and whether it has to be taken apart to leave the building. If it does, ask whether the job includes taking it apart and reassembling it; assembling furniture is one of the extra tasks Moveall for Business lists, and the quote says what is included.
Cables and power
Unplug and remove computers, screens and cables from desks before the move, or have your IT provider do it. Sit-stand desks should be lowered and unplugged.
Chairs, pedestals and cabinets
Chairs and pedestals go missing between floors more than anything else, because they all look alike. Label every chair and pedestal with its owner’s new desk code, on a part that will not be wrapped over, such as the underside of the seat or the top of the pedestal.
Moveall’s terms ask for furniture to be emptied of loose items before it is moved, so pedestals, filing cabinets, cupboards and drawers should be cleared and their contents packed in cartons. Lock or tape drawers and doors so they cannot open in transit, and keep keys in one labelled envelope with your office manager.
Boardroom tables, reception counters and large pieces
Large pieces need a plan for the route out of one building and into the other: the lift size, corridor turns, door widths and the loading dock. Measure the largest pieces and the lift, and put the sizes in the brief. Where an item is unusually heavy or awkward, Moveall’s Supercharge option adds team members and specialty equipment for heavy and bulky items.
How office furniture is protected
Moveall describes its own approach as strict handling and packaging procedures. On office furniture that means:
- Furniture wrapped in moving blankets before it leaves the floor.
- Loads planned so heavy pieces travel low and nothing is stacked on finished tops.
- Enclosed Pantech trucks: Moveall for Business lists 3, 5 and 8 tonne Pantechs.
- Clear, safe paths kept between the truck and the office throughout the move, as Moveall’s terms require.

Getting furniture ready before moving day
A little preparation in the office makes the furniture side of the move much quicker. In the days before the move:
- Empty every pedestal, drawer, cupboard and filing cabinet, and pack the contents in labelled cartons.
- Label every desk, chair, pedestal and cabinet with its new desk or room code.
- Take down anything fixed to desks: monitor arms, screens, whiteboards and desk lamps, unless the quote says we will.
- Unplug equipment and coil or bag cables, or have your IT provider do it.
- Lower and unplug sit-stand desks.
- Clear the floor around desks so the team can wrap and move furniture without lifting over boxes.
- Mark anything that is not moving with a clear staying label.
Open-plan floors, private offices and studios
Different offices move differently. An open-plan floor is mostly identical workstations and chairs, so the labelling system carries the job: every piece must be coded, because nothing looks distinctive. Private offices have heavier, more individual furniture, such as executive desks, credenzas and bookcases, and each office is best moved and placed as a set. Studios and creative spaces often have plan chests, large tables and display pieces that need sizes and a route checked in advance. Tell us which kind of floor you have, and the inventory and plan follow from it.
Stairs, levels and tight access
Not every office has a goods lift. Older buildings, upstairs offices above shops and converted houses can mean stairs, narrow landings and tight doorways. Measure the stairwell and the largest pieces, note any turns, and put them in the brief. The quote, the team and the time allowed are written to the access, so a staircase found on the day is the one thing that changes a move most.
New furniture fit-outs
Moveall for Business lists new furniture fit-outs among its services. When an office is fitted out with new furniture, the pieces usually arrive from one or more suppliers and need to be taken into the building, placed where the designer’s plan puts them and, often, assembled. Give us the suppliers, the delivery dates and the floor plan, and we plan the deliveries and placement around the fit-out trades. Interior designers who do this often can use a trade account; see trade accounts.
Placing furniture to the plan
The new floor plan is the instruction sheet for the move. Give every desk, office and room a code, put the codes on the furniture, and tape the plan up at the entry to each floor on the day. The team then places each piece by its code, and your contact checks the floor against the plan before sign-off. If artwork is to be hung, mark where on the plan; hanging artwork is another extra task Moveall for Business offers.
Reusing furniture in a new layout
Many offices take their existing furniture into a new layout: benches of six become benches of four, private offices become meeting rooms, a reception counter moves to a new wall. When the layout changes, the floor plan matters even more. Mark on it which existing pieces go where, which are joined differently, and which are new, so the team places each piece once and nothing has to be moved twice.
Moving furniture within one building
Reworking a floor after a refurbishment, or moving a team up or down a level, is office furniture removal without the truck. It still needs a plan: the order in which areas are cleared and refilled, lift bookings with the building manager, and labels on every piece. Teams that are not moving can keep working while the move goes around them.
Old furniture you are not keeping
Most office moves leave something behind: desks that do not fit the new floor, chairs being replaced, cupboards that belong to the old landlord. Decide early, mark those pieces clearly as staying, and leave them off the inventory. If you want old furniture taken somewhere else, such as another site or a buyer, put it in the brief as its own delivery.
What affects an office furniture quote
- The number and type of pieces, and how many need taking apart or assembling.
- Access at both ends: lifts, stairs, docks, corridors and parking.
- The distance between the buildings.
- Extras such as artwork hanging, packing or heavy items.
- The move window your lease or building allows.

Questions businesses ask
Do you take apart and reassemble workstations?
Assembling furniture is one of the extra tasks Moveall for Business lists. Tell us how your workstations are built and joined, and the quote will say what is included.
Do filing cabinets need to be emptied?
Yes. Moveall’s terms ask for furniture to be emptied of loose items before it is moved. Pack the contents in cartons and label them.
Can you deliver new furniture from our supplier?
New furniture fit-outs are one of the Moveall for Business services. Give us the suppliers, the delivery dates and the floor plan.
How is office furniture protected in the truck?
It is wrapped in moving blankets and loaded so heavy pieces travel low and nothing is stacked on finished tops, in enclosed Pantech trucks.
